July Summary

I’d received quite a few new entries in the days running up to July’s 3k on the Green so after breaking our record of 88 runners in June I was expecting that to be broken again with around 100 entrants.

The swarm of 139 runners that descended on Glasgow Green as we approached 12.30 was fantastic, if a bit overwhelming, and thankfully just inside the quantity of race stationery I had brought along.

As always there were good spirits and understanding from everyone at registration and we still got the race off on time, and in dry weather (as always – almost).

Past winner Kevin Brydon – having just returned from some summer training where he bumped into Mo Farah (no sign of Alberto Salazar he assures me) – was first over the line in 9.09. The finish recorders then did well, capturing the next 138 numbers and times. Given where we hold this event we often have casual park runners passing through the finish line and this can cause havoc in reconciling the results, so if they are ever a bit out from your own time ( as seems to be the case this month for some) then it’s probably due to that.

Thanks to BUPA and Run 4 It who generously supported this month’s event donating t shirts and discount vouchers. Sorry if you didn’t get one – we only planned for 100!!

Thanks also to Bellahouston Harriers for their continued support, this month entering 26 runners.

Finally, thanks to all of you for coming along. We raised £283 for Hospice UK which will be matched by my employer Clydesdale Bank (we’re not all bad!)

PS – Lost Property. If anyone inadvertently picked up a pair of red framed glasses can you let me know.
